Gebrüder Weiss is Austria’s largest family-owned transport and logistics service provider. The Group, with headquarters in Lauterach (Vorarlberg), has around 4,500 employees at 156 locations worldwide and had an annual turnover of 978 million euro in 2010.
The service scope comprises comprehensive and global distribution systems by road, rail, air and sea, individual logistics services as well as state-of-the-art IT solutions. In addition to its own transport systems, Gebrüder Weiss disposes of a close, worldwide network of long-term partners. Gebrüder Weiss is at home in economic centres all over the world. Experienced staff, renowned specialists in the field of project cargo and customs ensure tailor-made logistics solutions for both permanent logistics support and one-off transport jobs.
Gebrüder Weiss is aware of its financial and social responsibility as a business and seeks economically viable solutions with added value, which are at the same time environmentally-friendly. One example for our social commitment is the Orange Combi Cargo, an exclusive block train which runs daily between Vienna and Bludenz with a stopover in Hall/Tyrol, saving 66 truck trips a day. Economic and ecological criteria also dominate when the vehicle fleet is expanded. In accordance with Group-wide provisions, only trucks of the currently highest vehicle class “EURO 5” or “EEE” are purchased. Since September 2011, the first gas-powered truck with dual-fuel drive has been in use.
Generally, the reduction of CO2 emissions is one of the main objectives of environmental management at Gebrüder Weiss. This is also expressed by purchasing a wind farm in April 2011, which generates 20 gigawatt hours of environmentally-friendly electricity – more than 100% of the Group’s energy demand – while at the same time saving 12,000 tons of CO2 a year. Actions in the field of sustainability are documented transparently and measurably in the annual Sustainability Report. Gebrüder Weiss is the first Austrian logistics company to be distinguished with the GRI quality seal.
